Shake Shack is excited to announce the opening of the West Loop Shack, located at 185 N Morgan Street on Wednesday, May 24th at 11AM. Situated along the western bank of the Chicago River, West Loop was formerly a manufacturing and warehousing area that retains an industrial vibe while undergoing an urban transformation attracting upscale residences and nationally recognized restaurants. The West Loop Shack joins the Shake Shack family as the fourth location in the state of Illinois, alongside the River North, the Chicago Athletic Association and the Old Orchard Shacks.
Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, chicken (no hormones added ever), griddled flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries, beer, wine and more. A fun and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal, Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world.
In addition to the Shack classics, the West Loop Shack will be spinning up a selection of local frozen custard concretes:
Shack Attack: chocolate custard, fudge sauce, Warm Belly Bakery’s double chocolate cookie, Mast Brothers Shake Shack dark chocolate chunks, topped with chocolate sprinkles.
West Loop Crunch: vanilla custard, Fat Rice Bakery’s “bolo menino” almond-coconut cookie cake and chocolate toffee. Fat Rice is an award-winning Macau eatery in Chicago. The “Bolo Menino”, a Macanese holiday cake, is an almond sponge cake blended with toasted almonds, coconut flakes and brown sugar cookies.
Pie Oh My: vanilla custard and slice of Bang Bang Pie’s strawberry rhubarb seasonal pie.
To celebrate the opening, the West Loop Shack will be handing out the West Loop Crunch concrete to the first 50 guests in-line at the opening along with other branded swag.
In addition to Shake Shack’s exclusive Brooklyn Brewery ShackMeister® Ale, guests can pair their meals with local brews from Moody Tongue Brewery, Goose Island Brewery and Revolution Brewing. Wine lovers can enjoy a glass of Shack RedTM and Shack WhiteTM wine from Napa-based Frog’s Leap Winery.
As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good®, 5% of sales from the Pie Oh My concrete support the Greater Chicago Food Depository, which provides food for those in need across Cook County. Teams from the West Loop, River North, Chicago Athletic Association and Old Orchard Shacks volunteer and fundraise for the organization throughout the year.
Adorning the side of the West Loop Shack is a mural by Don’t Fret, a local Chicago artist best known for whimsical and figurative large scale murals and wheat paste installations. For his latest piece, the artist took influence from Carl Sandburgs poem “Chicago”. In the poem, Sandburg proclaimed Chicago the “Hog Butcher for The World”, and many of those meatpackers were in West Loop. With the neighborhood rapidly changing, Fret wanted to honor the old businesses and professions in the mural, along with his classic cast of characters and whimsical landscapes.
In keeping with Shake Shack’s commitment to green architecture and eco-friendly construction, the Plano Shack’s tabletops are made by CounterEvolution using reclaimed bowling alley lanes; chairs are designed by Uhuru using sustainable materials; and booths are crafted by Staach using lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
