Inspired by the name of the Chaoyang district, which means “facing the sun,” the Shack design brings soft shapes and gold elements to evoke the sun rising above the famous Beijing skyline. The golden colour palate and curvilinear shapes with fluted glass, warm wood and brass accents contrast with the surrounding angular buildings and gray streets. Local artist Pencil Bryan created ‘Metropolitan Jungle’, two pieces of vibrant in-Shack art that depict the hustle and bustle of life in the Central Business District.
We debuted two new concretes for the opening: Open Sesame combines vanilla custard, black sesame paste, chocolate brownie and chocolate chunks for an intense bittersweet flavor. The Guomao Walnut Crunch features vanilla custard blended with crumbled walnut cookies from legendary Beijing brand Dao Xiang Cun and caramel sauce, then topped with toasted walnuts for extra crunch. We donate 5% of sales from the Guomao Walnut Crunch to Beijing Oriental Rain ALS Care Center (ORACC), a Guomao-based charity that raises awareness and safeguards ALS patients and their families through health and wellness programs.
