Staff Internal Auditor 

The Staff Internal Auditor assists in evaluating the company’s internal control structure and other accounting, financial and operational activities. This is accomplished through continual compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The position assists corporate management and operations personnel in the design, application, and assessment of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial and operations data and promote operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance:
- Manage the design, operation and testing of the internal controls over financial reporting as required by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 - Sections 302 and 404
- Assist in annual SOX risk assessment and scoping
- Update financial process documentation in the form of narratives and/or flowcharts for all financial processes
- Identify key financial controls and control design gaps; includes understanding management review controls and information produced by the entity and related documentation requirements
- Perform walkthroughs, test key controls (business process, entity level, and ITGC), and conclude on operating effectiveness
- Work with management to develop action plans and monitor the status of action plans to address control design and operating deficiencies
- Coordinate day to day activities with External Audit to ensure minimal duplication of efforts

Other Operational Responsibilities:
- Ad-hoc audits, fraud investigations, process improvement initiatives and other projects as requested
- Assist in the development of an annual risk assessment
- Assist in the execution of the annual audit plan which includes evaluating accounting, financial and operational activities (e.g. Shack level audits, inventory counts) that align with the company’s strategic business objectives
- Prepare materials and participate in regular status updates to management and the external auditors on key matters pertaining to the control environment
-Track and manage status against audit timelines and schedules
 

Skills & Knowledge

  • Skilled with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Confident, Caring, Team-oriented, Guest-focused, Supportive, Empathetic, Trustworthy
  • Background should include core competency in SOX compliance and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and SEC reporting

Experience

  • 1-2 years of professional experience 
  • Bachelors Degree in Business or Accounting
  • Big 4 Public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with Workday, AuditBoard (or similar product), Fastpath Assure (or similar product) is a plus
  • CPA/CIA/CISA preferred
