Director of Financial Reporting

The Director of Financial reporting will be responsible for overseeing the external reporting function for the Shake Shack, as well equity-based compensation and consolidation accounting. This individual will work closely with finance throughout the quarterly earnings process. The Director of Financial Reporting will need to have the ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines, knowing how to organize and prioritize accordingly, while maintaining a highly analytical mindset. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and is self-motivated, adaptive, and pro-active, as well as possess a desire for continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing preparation, review and filing of reports with the SEC, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and other filing documents
  • Creation of quarterly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Interface with key contributors to the SEC reports, including Legal, Finance, Tax, FP&A, Supply Chain, Operations, IT, Development, People Resources and Marketing
  • Responsible for preparation of quarterly earnings press release, including the narrative and financial tables
  • Provide support to FP&A throughout the quarterly earnings process and assist with the review of the earnings script and supplemental materials
  • Review Xtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging of financial statements and footnotes
  • Provide support for the filing of the proxy statement
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors in conjunction with annual year-end audit and interim reviews, as well as SOX compliance
  • Responsible for all equity related accounting activity, including equity-based compensation accounting in accordance with ASC 718, EPS calculations and share ownership amongst affiliates
  • Support the forecasting and modeling around equity-based compensation
  • Responsible for all consolidation related accounting activity, including foreign entity consolidation
  • Oversee preparation of quarterly debt covenant compliance package for both consolidated and standalone entities
  • Responsible for future benefit plan and statutory reporting
  • Remain current on new and upcoming accounting guidance issued by the FASB and SEC
  • Review documentation and testing around the financial reporting, equity, and consolidation processes to ensure SOX compliance
  • Continually assess the financial reporting process for process improvements, especially around the Company’s recent ERP implementation
  • Lead the Disclosure Committee and provide quarterly materials for the Audit Committee
  • Manage a team of 2 to 3 direct reports

Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA is required

Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of accounting experience in private and public accounting
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Experience at Big 4 public accounting firm preferred
  • Experience in the restaurant and/or retail industries preferred
  • Experience with Workday a plus
  • Experience with Workiva a plus
