Matt became part of the Shack fam when he started as a Team Member at the Downtown Brooklyn Shack in 2011. After packing up and moving to NYC after college, Matt landed a job at the Shack.
“For me, the difference is the people and the culture,” he said. “With a history degree and a plan to work in government or public policy, I don’t know that I would’ve stayed in the restaurant industry for this long if I were with another company.”
The rest is history! Six years later, Matt is Assistant General Manager at the Shack and can’t imagine doing anything else.
Early on in his Shack career, Matt tagged along on 10 different openings, three of which were international. One of Matt’s favorite Shack memories is how much the Shack team members supported each other at the Covent Garden Shack opening in London.
“There’s no shortage of things that go wrong when opening a new restaurant,” he said. “It felt like something came up at every turn, but when you looked around the room, it was always full of people ready to roll up their sleeves and jump in.”
After a year of traveling, Matt returned to the Downtown Brooklyn Shack. Eventually, Matt hopes to become an Area Director and help other Shack family members thrive.
“Teaching and developing the people around me is one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable parts of what I do, especially when it comes to mentoring other managers,” he said.
