Our Roots are in Helping: Casey Trees Honors Shake Shack at Canopy Awards

May 24, 2017

As part of our mission to Stand For Something Good®, our teams regularly volunteer in their communities and every Shack donates 5% of sales from a concrete to a local charity partner. Our roots are in serving our neighborhoods, and D.C. is no exception!

Casey Trees, a nonprofit devoted to restoring, enhancing and protecting the tree canopy of D.C., has been the official charity partner of the Union Station Shack since it opened in 2014. We loved them so much, they’re now the regional partner for all of our D.C. Shacks! In addition to financial contributions from concrete sales, our D.C. teams have been fueling their early morning tree planting days on the reg with Shack breakfast and volunteering with the organization for years.

On April 27th (also known as Arbor Day Eve), Casey Trees held their 4th annual Canopy Awards, where Shake Shack was honored with the Partnership Award. Doug Solomon, General Manager of the MGM National Harbor Shack accepted the award. Doug has been building our long-term relationship with Casey Trees throughout his tenure running the D.C.-area Shacks.

“The most rewarding part for me has been connecting more with the people and places of D.C.,” Doug said. “I am able to connect the dots with people I meet for the first time when they see our sign about Casey Trees or when they see me in a Casey Trees T-shirt. When passing a place with friends where I have been a part of the planting, I can tell the story of Casey Trees and how fun it is.”

Check out the highlights of the night below, and huge thanks to Casey Trees for honoring us!
