We’re all about our Shack family! As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand for Something Good®, we’re always looking to help our team members grow and thrive, both personally and professionally.
Donald has been part of the Shack family since our early days in Madison Square Park. After years of hard work (and too many ShackBurgers to count!), he’s worked his way up from Team Member to General Manager at the Midtown East Shack.
Donald joined the Madison Square Park Shack family in 2008 and was immediately struck by the team’s work ethic and dedication.
“Everyone was working as hard as they could, which made me want to do the same,” he said. “The energy was out of this world.”
Donald quickly mastered all the stations at the Shack–from grill to custard to front expo–and was ready for the next step.
“Luckily, I worked with some really amazing people who believed in me and made it easy for me to think growth was possible,” he said.
In 2010, Donald was promoted to Supervisor, and a year later–days after his 21st birthday—he became a Manager.
“Managing an entire Shack was a challenge, but with more time under my belt I was able to find my way,” he said. “I was surrounded by a fantastic group of people who took the time to nurture my growth and show me the ropes.”
In 2014, Donald made the move from the Upper East Side Shack to the newly opened Midtown East Shack, where he was brought on as Assistant General Manager. In 2016, eight years after he joined the Shack family, Donald was promoted to General Manager.
“I’m always amazed about how things come full circle,” he said. “Shake Shack has helped me become a better man and I’m grateful to be a part of such an incredible family.”
At Shake Shack, we provide a clear path to get our team where they want to be through our “Steppin’ Up Model,” a step-by-step promotional path for growth. Check out this video for other stories like Donald’s, and visit our job board to view openings within the Shack family!
