We were super psyched to have the opportunity to host another 99U Studio Session at Shackquarters in NYC this week.
99U, part of the Adobe family, is a Webby Award-winning website that also hosts popular events and publishes bestselling books and a magazine, sharing pragmatic, action-oriented insights from leading researchers and visionary creatives. Each year as part of the 99U Conference, the team hosts a handful of interactive learning sessions at offices across NYC, from Spotify and MOMA to Ideo and The New Yorker.
This year, Shake Shack’s Senior Designer Cathie Urushibata took a crowd of 55 through her design process in working with a limited set of fonts, colors and icons to create menus, signage, social media content, apparel and more.
At the end of the talk, attendees tried their hand (literally) at applying the idea of design within constraints by completing a challenge to sketch something that represents NYC to them—without using any right angles.
Check out some of the results, below!
