Shake Shack® and No Kid Hungry® Launch the 5th Annual Great American Shake Sale

5th Annual Great American Shake Sale: Donate $2 to help end childhood hunger. Get a free shake on your next visit!

Give and shake! On Sunday, May 1st, Shake Shack® will kick off its 5th Annual Great American Shake Sale benefiting No Kid Hungry®.

The Great American Shake Sale is a company-wide cause marketing initiative taking place May 1st-31st, 2016, at all U.S. Shake Shacks (excluding stadiums and airports). Its goal is to raise awareness and funds for No Kid Hungry in its effort to end childhood hunger in America, where 1 in 5 kids in America are living in households without consistent access to food.

Throughout May, Shake Shack guests who donate $2 or more to No Kid Hungry will receive a card for a complimentary hand-spun shake — valued at $6.00 — redeemable on their next visit. One hundred percent of donations will benefit No Kid Hungry.

Thanks to the deep generosity of its guests in 2015, Shake Shack surpassed its goal of raising $350,000 by more than $154,000. In doing so, Shake Shack achieved the significant milestone of donating over $1 million to No Kid Hungry in the five years since the Great American Shake Sale began. Shake Shack’s goal for 2016 is to raise an additional $500,000 for No Kid Hungry.

Donations to No Kid Hungry help connect children to the healthy food they need through essential nutrition programs like school breakfast, summer meals and classes that educate low-income families on how to cook healthy, affordable foods. Just $2 can provide kids with 20 meals. If Shake Shack reaches its goal to raise $500,000 this year, that’s 5 million additional meals for hungry children in America.

“As we embark on our 5th Annual Great American Shake Sale, I can only express my sincere gratitude to No Kid Hungry for their work to end childhood hunger and to our guests, who continue to support and surprise us every day,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO.

The Great American Shake Sale was inspired by Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry, a national grassroots fundraising initiative started in 2003 that encourages people to host bake sales in their communities to support No Kid Hungry. In the spirit of the bake sale, Shake Shack’s May Custard Calendar is baked goods-inspired. This year’s flavors are Caramel Pretzel, Oatmeal Crème Pie, Red Velvet, Cookies N' Chocolatey Cream, Brownie Batter and Strawberry Cheesecake. All flavors can be spun into rich and creamy shakes.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating the 5th year of the Great American Shake Sale and five years of partnership with Shake Shack,” said Debbie Shore, co-founder of Share Our Strength, the national nonprofit behind the No Kid Hungry campaign. “The way Shake Shack’s employees and guests embrace and support our work to make sure more kids get every meal, every day, year after year, is proof that committed corporate partners and their passionate customers can change the face of hunger in the U.S.”

Shake Sales are being held internationally, too: The Great Japanese Shake Sale will benefit Hatachi Kikin and Red Cross; The Great Russian Shake Sale will benefit Food Bank RUS; and The Great British Shake Sale will benefit Action Against Hunger.
