Good 'N' Green

Jan 4, 2016

Wake up and smell the Shack. We’re so excited to announce an exclusive collaboration with Yards Brewing Company and La Colombe Coffee Roasters: Coffee Stout. Starting January 8th, 2016 until supplies last, the three Philadelphia Shacks (Center City, University City and King of Prussia), La Colombe’s Fishtown café and Yards’ Northern Liberties tasting room will all pour pints of the custom collaborative brew ($5.75).

Check out the video below for an inside look at Coffee Stout:

Coffee Stout is a dark ale brewed with roasted malt to create a smooth, creamy sip. La Colombe coffee beans infuse the beer with bright notes of lavender, orange and caramel. The Haitian beans used in the Coffee Stout are sourced from the village of Fatima and represent a three-year investment in the Haiti Coffee Academy, emblematic of La Colombe’s work to reinvigorate the Haitian coffee industry. La Colombe’s unwavering commitment to ethically sourced, quality coffee beans and Yards’ investment in the Philadelphia community pair perfectly with our mission to Stand For Something Good®. Plus, what goes better with a ShackBurger than a cold craft beer?

In keeping with all three partners’ dedication to supporting the local community, $2 from each pint of Coffee Stout sold will go to the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. Mural Arts, the Center City Shack’s official charitable partner, is a grassroots organization dedicated to creating artwork that transforms public spaces and individual lives. A custom Mural Arts piece by local artist David Guinn graces the rooftop wall of the Shack. We’ll also be teaming up with Mural Arts artist Jonathan Mandell on a limited-edition art print to commemorate Coffee Stout. Stay tuned!

“Yards and La Colombe go way back, all the way to the same opening week over 20 years ago, and Shake Shack’s Danny Meyer is one of our oldest customers,” said Todd Carmichael, CEO and Co-Founder of La Colombe. “We always jump at an opportunity to collaborate on a delicious coffee beer, and we were excited to work with Yards and Shake Shack on this brew to benefit Philadelphia’s Mural Arts program. It’s a great feeling to use your craft for a good cause. Burgers, coffee, beer and art, all the finer things in life.”

“One of the great things about doing collaboration beers is that you’re bringing things together that aren’t normally together,” said Tom Kehoe, Founder and Brewmaster of Yards Brewing Company. “In this case, iconic things: La Colombe, Shake Shack and Yards.”
